CG (Computer Graphics) artists are recruited by animation, VFX, gaming, and graphic design studios to execute a range of projects including films, business presentations, corporate videos, television commercials, educative videos, and more. These professionals use CGI (computer-generated imagery) to create relevant digital work (digital assets/files/templates). The majority of the CG artists work in the media and entertainment industry. With technological advancements and the wider application of CGI in hitherto unexplored areas, CGI is gaining popularity as a technology with multiple applications across areas including entertainment, education, training, and marcom.
The job of the CG artist is to collaborate with other artists, animators, and programmers to execute projects on time and support the CG pipeline. CG artists are expected to be familiar with various 3D and VFX software applications and have a strong command over every aspect of the CG pipeline. Scores of CG artists are working either as employees of a CG studio or as freelancers.
Most of the CG artists work on creating 2D & 3D assets for use in animation films and games. Using a combination of hand-drawing skills and computer software expertise, CG artists work on creating special effects that meet the project brief. Many CG artists are self-employed, typically working as freelancers and they find their own CG artist jobs to work on.
